Ira Meislik Reappointed Vice-Chair of Assignment and Subletting Committee

Once again, Ira Meisik has been awarded the role as Vice-Chair of the Assignment and Subletting Committee within the Leasing Group of the American Bar Association’s Section of Real Property, Probate & Trust Law. A specialist in commercial real estate leasing on the national level, Ira Meislik is a frequent author and lecturer in the area. His recent article covering Sublease Recognition Agreements was published in the November/December 2005 edition of Probate & Property.

Ira Meislik Appointed to Legal Profession’s Diversity Committee

It is a distinct privilege to announce that Ira Meislik has been appointed to the Diversity Committee of the American Bar Association’s Section of Real Property, Probate & Trust Law. One of the major challenges of the new century is to build a legal profession that can effectively serve as the connecting link between citizens and the law. Data indicates that while our society is rapidly becoming more diverse, with minorities likely to reach majority status in 35-50 years. As clients become more heterogeneous, leaders of the profession must change to stay in tune with them.

2005 Annual Real Estate Conference

Some of New Jersey’s most authoritative real estate practitioners participated in the 2005 Annual Real Estate Conference in New Brunswick, New Jersey on Wednesday, March 30, 2005. Meislik & Levavy’s Ira Meislik presented a program covering how to deal with leases that are acquired as part of the purchase of real property. He also conducted a workshop focusing on the problems faced when representing a small or weak tenant in lease negotiations. Named partner, Ira Meislik, has extensive experience in commercial leasing matters and has written and spoken about all aspects of commercial leasing.

Ground Leasing Explained

Ira Meislik has drawn together a panel of leading real estate attorneys to present a 75 minute program covering significant issues in ground leasing. The program to be presented on Friday, October 1, 2005 at the New York Waldorf Astoria will cover basic ground lease drafting, making leases financeable, reversion, treatment in bankruptcy, title insurability, insurance and reconstruction, and recognition agreements. As part of the Fall meeting of American College of Real Estate Lawyers (ACREL), of which Ira Meislik is a member, the program will be attended by more than 300 of the most respected real estate attorneys in the country. Membership in ACREL is by invitation only; there is accordingly no application process. Prospective members are elected by the membership at large only after nomination initiated by existing College members. Nomination must be based on an outstanding professional reputation and demonstrated ability in the field of real estate law. It must also be based on at least 10 years of substantial experience in real estate law and substantial contributions to the improvement of real estate law and practice, and creating a more informed bar and public in these matters, through writing, teaching, bar or legislative activities or other public service.
