On June 9, 2010, Ira Meislik moderated a Green Leasing program for the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education and presented his thoughts on crafting “green” (sustainable) leases even as this relatively new area is exploding with new concepts and challenges. The program, aimed at attorneys and others who are responsible for structuring transactions where the parties want to support sustainable building and developments, took place at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

The program was titled: “Painting Commercial Leases ‘Green’: Negotiating & Drafting Leases That Make Both Financial & Environmental Sense.” It covered a range of important topics such as: Current Developments in Green Leasing; Green Leases: Operating Expense Considerations & Implications; Energy Efficiency Lease Guidance to Address the ‘Split Incentive’; Green Leasing Web Site Links; Green Insurance Questions & Answers to Paint Your Lease Green. In his presentation, Mr. Meislik focused on the “Split Incentive” and on current trends in leasing clauses for space in sustainable buildings.

In 2010 alone, Mr. Meislik has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers In America® and as a New Jersey Super Lawyer. Peer nominations and evaluations are combined with third party research. Each candidate is evaluated on 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. In addition, in 2009 he was singled out by Real Estate New Jersey magazine as one of the Garden State’s top real estate attorneys.
